An Introduction to the 3 Stages of the Life Audit
Every new year brings about change. It is one of the only times of the year that behaves as a catalyst for people to change themselves for the better. From new resolutions to new planners, people plan for a fresh start when the year starts anew. Despite all of the preparation and excitement, these goals and aspirations fade into the background as we get caught up in the busy lifestyle we built for ourselves. However, this doesn’t have to become your 2026 reality, and all it takes is The Life Audit’s 3 simple stages.
Stage #1: The Stocktake
The Life Audit’s 3 stages are structured as a path that leads you to the better version of yourself. Your journey on The Life Audit path begins with a stocktake of your current life, so let’s break the 1st stage into tasks that you can follow:
- Identify your goals, interests, and dislikes.
- Use The Life Audit charts to log the time spent on the different sections of your life, such as health, work, hobbies, sleep, etc.
- Journal your answers to the reflection questions in The Life Audit course.
Essentially, this stage pushes you to analyze your life from your every waking moment to the time you spend sleeping, painting a written picture of yourself. By the end of stage 1, we see who you are currently in terms of dreams, dislikes, and time. You have a complete stocktake of your life and have completed stage 1 of the Life Audit. Now, let’s move on to stage 2 and see what we can declutter from your life.
Stage #2: The Breakeven
As of now, we have accounted for all of the activity categories that are taking up your time. In the second stage of The Life Audit, we try to maximize our time in the most productive way to make more time to spend on the things we really want to spend on. For each of the activity categories identified and analyzed in the first stage:
- Reflect on the way you’re spending your time in each activity category using The Life Audit course’s Breakeven questions.
- Each activity category has its own set of questions. The questions target the quality of your time spent in that category. After answering all of the questions, you will be able to identify how you truly feel about your time, whether the activity is a time well spent or a waste of time.
- Fill in the corresponding charts from The Life Audit course.
- The charts include a variety of planners and inventory logs based on the activity category. With each chart, you organize your thoughts about the activities you partake in, such as filling in a note chart for appointments in the Health category.
- Note the helpful ways to improve yourself in each activity category.
The final step of stage 2 is to learn about ways to optimize the way you spend your time. You should work on implementing these tips to reach your best breakeven position, where you eliminate the activities that are negatively impacting you or add time towards activities that you benefit from, such as the Health category.
You might need to go through each of the three steps of stage 2 to find your best breakeven position. Once you feel that you have cleared away the pointless activities, you have officially finished stage 2 and have unlocked stage 3, Margins for Growth.
Stage #3: Margins for Growth
In the third and final stage of The Life Audit, you gain the chance to make your dreams come true. Back in stage 1, you answered reflection questions, identified your goals, and wrote down your interests. After completing the first two steps of The Life Audit, you may no longer be the same person who answered those questions.
At the start of this last stage, you will need to get a picture of who you are after traveling on the path of The Life Audit. Simply fill out the reference chart and reflection questions from The Life Audit course and analyze yourself once more. With a clear idea of what you want to achieve, you can start moving forward in stage 3 and design your dream future with only the things that matter to you.
With these 3 simple stages and The Life Audit course, you can take control of your future. At first, the 3-stage path might seem overwhelming. However, the Life Audit course simplifies this 3-stage process. From charts to reflection questions, it provides you with all of the resources you need to become the best new you for this new year.
